New Delhi: After huge hike in the price of petrol, now it is the turn of diesel and LPG. Both these fuels might just get costlier from Saturday itself if the EGoM does indeed decides to bite the bullet on fuel prices.
Sources say that the high-powered panel could also consider changes in duties on crude and petroleum products to cushion the blow to the consumers. Shares of public sector oil marketing companies (OMCs) have advanced, spurred by a fall in crude oil prices and on reports that the EGoM on fuel prices will meet on Friday mull hike in diesel and LPG prices.
Sources say that the Union Petroleum Ministry is seeking an increase in diesel and cooking gas prices (LPG) on Friday as well as a cut in taxes on fuel products, according to reports.
According to reports, the under recoveries of OMCs could total Rs. 450bn in the first quarter of the current fiscal year.
Meanwhile, the government is planning to make Aadhar number mandatory for people to receive the government services as it would be compulsory for all LPG?consumers to provide the 12-digit unique number to receive cylinder delivery.
If citizens are fail to provide their Aadhar numbers while seeking cylinder delivery, they may end up having to cook without LPG.
Satwant Singh, Executive Director, Indian Oil Corp (IOC) confirmed that the Ministry of Petroleum is in the process of passing a control order to make the Aadhar number mandatory to get LPG cylinders in Mysore and Hyderabad.
It may be recalled that the Central government set up the Unique Identification Authority of India > (UIDAI), which was later renamed as ‘Aadhar’, in 2009 to provide a 12-digit unique number to all residents of the country.
The authority enrolls individuals by collecting their fingerprint and iris details, name, gender, date of birth and address proof. It also allows individuals to prove their identity online to avail a wide range of services, from PDS goods to banking services.
