Deepak Ravikumar wins Formula Swift event



Coimbatore: On a day when all four drivers in various categories scored back-to-back wins, Mars Racing's Deepak Ravikumar won the Formula Swift event of the 14th JK Tyre National Road Racing Championship at Kari Motor Speedway here on Sunday.

 

 

Other highlight of the day's racing was the Indian Touring Car event, enjoyed by a good holiday crowd,which saw favourite Radha Selvaraj proving he has not lost his skills despite being in hiatus for two seasons. In the reverse grid pattern held yesterday Radha Selvaraj started fourth on pole but it did not deter the 52-year-old's determination to go in for the kill.

 

 

The reverse grid rule based on qualifying timings did not go well with almost all young and veteran drivers expressing their wish at post race press meets for it to be stopped. The Super Saloon car event today was won by Radha Selvaraj (12:42.281 secs), followed by Rajvirduhan and his (12:43.027) father B Vijaykumar (12:47.386secs).

 

 

Selvaraj showed hung on to the tail of leader Raju Virudhan and looked to go past, but in vain. Understeer problems in Virudhan's car cost him precious seconds in the first corner in the seventh lap, enabling Selvaraj forge into the lead.

 

 

In Indian Junior Touring Cars event,defending champion Bala Vijay (13:33.810 secs) scoring a grand double,winning back to back races, while T S Diljith Shaji of Kerala (13:35.288 secs) and Jai Prasanth Venkat (13:54.524) finished second and third. In Polo Cup events, Chennai based Vishnu Prasad won both races, followed by Mumbai's Mihir Dharkar, while Delhi's Saif Mir and Alisha Abdullah finished third in first and second races respectively.
