Mumbai: In protest against state government`s lackluster attitude on Dey`s murder case, the journalist of Mumbai have decided to go on a relay hunger agitation from today. They are demanding CBI inquiry into the case. Meanwhile, four teams of investigators are still not able to crack the murder case even though it released a sketch of one of the four killers of Jyotirmoy Dey on the basis of description given by eye-witnesses to the shoot-out incident.
It may be mentioned here that Jyotindra Dey, editor (special investigations) at Mid Day, was shot dead in broad daylight by four unidentified men at Hiranandani complex in the suburban district of Powai on June 11.
Earlier, on Tuesday an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Anil Mahabole came out in open to defend himself and said that he has no objections to being interrogated about the murder of investigative reporter. Dey was shot on Saturday. Taking all those who are accusing him head-on, Mahabole said an attempt to link him to Dey`s death is very bad.
Sources claim that Dey may have been killed because of recent stories that focused on the oil mafia. He had also reported on alleged links between a section of the Mumbai police force and the D-Company, the notorious gang operated by underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. He also stoutly denied reports that he has been transferred after Mr Dey`s murder.
The alleged killer, whose sketch was released, is in the 20-25 age group and of medium built, with a height of around five-and-a-half feet. His complexion is black and he was wearing a blue raincoat at the time of the incident, police said. In a related development, journalists in both Goa and Chandigarh have demanded arrest of all those who are behind the murder of Dey.
