UP: Google Maps Misleads Car Into Under-Construction Bridge In Bareilly, Leaves Three Dead

Police said that the Google Maps wrongly led their car to an under-construction bridge, from where the vehicle plunged into a river. The car fell into the Ramganga river from a height of 50 feet.

In a tragic incident, three men died after their car fell off an under-construction bridge in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred in Faridpur area on Saturday night. The deceased were heading to Bareilly from Gurugram and were reportedly using Google maps for navigation. They were not aware about the condition of bridge.

Police said that the Google Maps wrongly led their car to an under-construction bridge, from where the vehicle plunged into a river. The car fell into the Ramganga river from a height of 50 feet.

Villagers Discover The Damaged Car

The damaged car was discovered by villagers who then alerted the police. Faridpur and Dataganj police rushed to the spot upon receiving the information.

It was found that the men were relying on Google Maps for navigation and their vehicle had unknowingly approached an incomplete flyover. They drove onto the structure, which abruptly ended, causing the car to fall into the river below.

What Did The Police Say?

Police said that a damaged car was found on the river Ramganga at 9:30 am. “When the police arrived, they saw a Wagon R, which was possibly hired as a taxi, on the river. The car went to the incomplete bridge and fell into a river from there,” police added.

The bodies were found and taken for post-mortem. The deceased have been identified as Amit and Vivek. Efforts are underway to identify the third one, said the police.

The family members of the victims have blamed the concerned officials for the incident. They have questioned why the bridge was unfinished, and no barricades were installed at one end of the structure, India Today reported.
