New Delhi, Nov 24: Reliance Jio has created a stir in the Indian telecom industry since its launch two years back. Mukesh Ambani led Reliance JIo has not only forced its rivals to change their plans price. In the latest to this, many of the Vodafone and Airtel users in the coming time will not be able to use their SIM cards in the coming weeks. Reports suggest that Vodafone and Airtel allegedly going to terminate over 200 million connections of mobile users on their respective networks.

The reason in the report given is that users spending less than Rs 35 on recharges may be terminated or they have look for options to keep their mobile number active. This move has been taken to increase its average revenue per user, which has seen a dramatic fall ever since Reliance Jio launch in the telecom industry.

Reliance Jio is the first company in the country to offer voice calls for free, forcing its rivals to follow the same, leading to massive losses for the industry.

“We have about 330 million customers in wireless, but if you look at the pattern of consumption across the base you will find that there is a very large number of customers, some of whom we acquired from Telenor and some that we have ourselves, about 100 million customers with very low levels of ARPU. So, these ARPUs are sort of low double-digit,” Gopal Vittal, Managing Director and CEO, Bharti Airtel said to media.

The report has also claimed that most of these 250 million with Vodafone and Airtel are using dual-SIM phones, where one SIM goes for using data, while the other SIM is recharged for low amounts is used for making calls.

Airtel and Vodafone have over 150 million and 100 million 2G users respectively and in a few years, this 2G network will be shut down in the country with 4G and possibly 5G taking over in the coming years.
