Indians are ready to kick off note ban blues whereas travel companies are introducing no. of offers for long weekends. Apart from this, domestic and some leading foreign airlines are offering special discounts to encourage people to use these god sent long weekends.
Unlike 2016, this year promises to be good one.There are around 12 extended weekends in 2017. According to reports, apart from domestic places, Indian travelers will prefer no-visa destinations or those that offer visa-on-arrival to Indians.
This year you may take Friday, January 27, off and turn your weekend into a four-day vacation. According to Travel companies, they are experiencing 25% rise in inquiries for this weekend. Around 60% of the travelers are planning a domestic holiday while the rest of them are interested in short-haul international destinations.
After January, there are long weekends in the months of- February, 2 long weekends in March, 2 long weekends in April and a May Day weekend, Eid weekend in June,2 Longest weekends in August, Gandhi Jayanti weekend and Diwali weekend in October, 2 more long weekends in December.
Travel companies say among the favored destinations for the long R-Day weekend are Auli, Coorg, Vizag with Araku Valley, Pondicherry and Kaziranga National Park. For short-haul overseas vacations, the choicest destinations are Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong-Macau and Thailand.
The air travel is taking trend over road journeys as it gives travelers more time to spend at the destinations. Recently few airlines have announced discount for tickets for people travelling after January 15.
International airlines like Qatar, Emirates, Etihad, British Airways and Malaysian are offering discounts of up to Rs 10,000 per ticket.
