Mumbai: Days after a snake lover died while kissing a cobra, an actress was arrested for taking a selfie with cobra and posting the video on social media.
Actress Shruti Ulfat, known for her serial ‘Nagarjuna-Ek Yoddha’, was arrested on Wednesday for posting a video with a protected species of cobra on social media. The video, posted 4 months ago went viral, and many wildlife activists protested.
Shruti had posted a clip on Instagram on October 17,2016. In the video she was seen posing with cobra coiled around her neck and hand. The Indian spectacled cobra is is protected under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Under the Act, it is an offence to capture or post pictures or videos with it.
Thane Forest department arrested the actress after complaints by many activists. Shruti was arrested along with actor Pearl Puri and two producers, Utkarsh Bali and Nitin Solanki.
The video was tested by a forensic lab foor authenticity as initially the production team had claimed that real cobra was not used. But tests proved the production team wrong.
Shruti has worked in few films-Raaz, Aetbaar and Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan-also.
