New Delhi: The Indian consulate in the Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif was attacked by unidentified gunmen on Sunday night as multiple explosions and gunfire rang out at the compound.
According to reports, the attackers tried to enter the consulate but were repulsed by ITBP and the Afghan army.
Ministry of External Affairs said that it was in contact with the Kabul mission and consulate officials and no casualties had been reported so far.
Reports further suggest that two of the four attackers have been killed.
No group has claimed responsibility of the attack on the consulate, which comes just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Afghan capital of Kabul to inaugurate the new building for Afghan Parliament built by India.
