Akhilesh-Shivpal peace formula: Mulayam favours brother, pacifies son with 'No. 2 in SP' sop

Lucknow, Sept 16: Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's peace formula to end the war within Yadav family seems to favour brother Shivpal Yadav. Mulayam has rejected most of the demands of his son and UP CM Akhilesh Yadav.

According to the Mulayam formula, Shivpal will continue to be state party chief of Samajwadi Party. Shivpal's close aide and sacked minister, Gayatri Prajapati's resignation will be rejected by Akhilesh and he will be reinstated as minister.

Reacting on the situation, Shivpal said," I had told him everything to Netaji (Mulayam). I will obey the directions of Netaji , and work under him".

In a bid to pacify son Akhilesh, Mulayam has agreed to take action against Amar Singh. Akhilesh may also be appointed National Working President of Samajwadi Party. this will make Akhilesh Number 2 in the party at the national level. This will put Akhilesh above Shivpal in the organisational structure of the party.

Earlier in the day, the Shivpal supporters gathered in large numbers at the party office and had raised anti-Akhilesh slogans, a first for the party. The vociferous Shivpal supporters had clearly outnumbered the Akhilesh supporters at the party office. Mulayam had to address the party workers to cool down the frayed tempers. Mulayam assured the workers there was no war in the party, and whatever difference existed between Shivpal and Akhilesh have been resolved.

The old fox of Indian politics, Mulayam Singh Yadav has preferred brother over son for political reasons. Shivpal has a large support base at the grass root level (evidence of which was seen at the party office), politically sharp and is known for his organisational skills. On the other hand, Akhilesh is popular among the youth and has a relatively clean image. Mulayam Singh, thus needs both if the party is to do well in the 2017 assembly elections.
