NEW DELHI: The Kejriwal government wants a 250% hike in the MLA local area development (LAD) fund to Rs 14 crore. At present the amount is 4 crore. The logic being given is that the MLAS should have enough funds to push development in their constituencies.
The proposal has been sent to Centre for approval. With the Centre and Delhi government at loggerheads, getting okay from Centre will be a herculean task for Kejriwal government.
AAP's move before the municipal elections next year, is similar to what Sheila Dixit had done in 2011. With UPA government at Centre, Sheila had got MLA LAD fund increased to Rs 4 crore from Rs 2 crore.
