Assam Elections: Amit Shah pitches to make state free of infiltrators

Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which aspires to dislodge the Congress from power in the ensuing assembly elections in Assam had promised to stop illegal immigrations in the state in exchange of votes.

On Wednesday, during his day-long visits to the state, BJP president Amit Shah launched a no-holds-barred attack on the Tarun Gogoi and said "Congress is only busy helping illegal Bangladehis. If we are voted to power, we will protect you. Give us a chance."

"In Assam, the Assamese people are losing their land to the encroachment of illegal Bangladeshis. For 15 years, there has only been corruption in Assam... Women are not safe in the state. And a state where women are not safe, cannot progress,"Shah added.

Shah also accused Gogoi’s Congress government of indulging in corruption and family politics. “Nothing else has happened in Assam,” he alleged.
