Assam polls: BJP ties up with Asom Gana Parishad to ‘remove Congress’

New Delhi: In a major boost to the Bharatiya Janata Party, the regional party Asom Gana Parishad on Wednesday decided to contest the Assam assembly elections together with the saffron camp.

On grounds of removing Congress from power in Assam, which the AGP president Atul Bora (junior) had also stressed in party’s general assembly meeting on February 18, the BJP joined hands with the party that won 10 seats out of 126 in the 2011 Legislative Elections.

"We have to remove Congress for welfare of Assam," BJP leader Sarbananda Sonowal said.
