Big news for heart patients: They should get up every 20 minutes to live longer

New Delhi, News24 Bureau, Oct 22: Kind attention all heart patients! If you want to live longer and remain healthier then give up the sedentary lifestyle and get up from your chair every 20 minutes.

The latest study shows that heart patients should move every 20 minutes to prolong life.  Heart patients should interrupt sedentary time every 20 minutes with a seven-minute bout of light physical activity to prolong life, according to a study.

Previous research has shown that being sedentary for long periods could shorten life but taking breaks to move around may counteract the risk. This is all the more true if you are burning more than 770 kilo calories (kcal) a day. This study, presented at the annual Canadian Cardiovascular Congress in Toronto, investigated how many breaks, and for what duration, are needed to expend 770 kcal.

Improvement in lifestyle minimises the risk and a good lifestyle is a combination of healthy food, ample physical activity, regular exercise, good engagement, meditation and a social life.
