Mumbai: Seeking to step up pressure on BJP, its oldest ally Shiv Sena on Thursday has demanded the resignation of its Maharashtra Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse in the wake of recent allegation that he received phone calls from Dawood Ibrahim's house in Karachi.
However, BJP slammed Shiv Sena for demanding the resignation of Khadse and asked the party categorically not to interfere in its internal matters, according to sources.
“We will take the required steps in Khadse episode and we are competent enough to handle the matter,” said top leader of the party.
According to highly placed sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is upset over allegations against Khadse. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is slated to meet Modi on Thursday in Delhi.
Earlier, BJP President Amit Shah sought a detailed report on the revenue minister.
Meanwhile, Khadse met Fadnavis on Monday and the meeting lasted for about 40 minutes.
