BJP leader arrested with Rs 2000 notes worth Rs 33 lakh

New Delhi: The Special Task Force of Kolkata Police arrested BJP leader Mahesh Sharma with Rs 33 lakh cash in new Rs 2000 notes along with arms. A total of seven people, including Sharma were arrested. Sharma had contested assembly elections but lost.

 The police got information that  armed group was travelling in a car from Asansol to Kolkata. An alert was sounded , but the group managed to give police a slip and reached Kolkata. The STF then tracked them  to a flat near Kolkata airport  by locating their mobile towers. The group allegedly is part of the coal mafia. Semi-automatic pistols  and ammunition have been recovered too.

Sharma and others have been booked on charges of money laundering and under Arms Act. (News24Bureau)
