BJP’s fact-finding team detained in violence-hit Malda, sent back to Kolkata

Kolkata: A three-member team of Bhartiya Janta Party formed to access the situation in Malda were detained at the Malda railway station and sent back to Kolkata.

The team was travelling to Kaliachak in Malda district, where violence had erupted on Sunday over an alleged remark of a BJP leader.

The fact-finding team set up party president Amit Shah is being headed by party national general secretary and Member of Parliament Bhupender Yadav. MPs SS Ahluwalia and BD Ram are other two members of the team.

On January 3, riots broke out at Kalichak in Malda district when a religious protest rally turned violent. The crowd was protesting against the remark of a right-wing leader.

The rally turned and the agitators vandalized Kalichak Police Station, setting a number of police vehicles on fire.
