AAP special: 5 deaths, Kejriwal's Health Minister says 'chikungunya can't cause death'

New Delhi: In yet another AAP special, Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain has blamed MCD and LG Najeeb Jung for the rising dengue and chikungunya cases in the  national capital. Jain went a step further and denied outbreak of chikungunya in Delhi. He even blamed media for spreading canard to defame the AAP government.

"There has never been any death due to chikungunya in the world. Prove it medically. Medically chikungunya can never because of anyone's death," Jain asserted. At the time of writing this report, 5 chikungunya deaths have been reported in the national  Capital, 4 at  Ganga Ram hospital and 1 at AIIMS.

In a veiled attack on the Centre, Jain said that Delhi government officers were not being allowed to work and were being transferred. " In such a situation why is the Delhi government being blamed? Ask the LG who himself went to the US. Two MCD Mayors are out of Delhi, ask them why? Their only work is to ensure cleanliness, " an agitated Health minister said.

He accused the BJP-controlled civic bodies of not taking preventive steps to control the spread of vector-borne disease. "The three municipal corporations are not performing their duties to clean the city and do fogging to prevent chikungunya and dengue spread," Jain added.

Jain, who was in Goa and returned Delhi on Tuesday afternoon, said the situation in Delhi government hospitals is "much better" than in the hospitals run by the Centre and civic bodies.

"We're not denying anyone a bed and have made all facilities available to deal with such cases. We have opened 262 fever clinics in Delhi. Please avoid self medication and do not panic," Jain said at a press conference.
