China issues 'safety alert' for its citizens travelling to India

Beijing, July 8: In a shocking development here on Saturday, China has issued safety alert for its citizens travelling to India, according to officials.

The move may add bitterness at a time when relations between the two neighbours has hit a new low.

Few days back China said that it was weighing its options on issuing a travel alert for citizens visiting India depending on the security situation following the border standoff in the Sikkim section.

"The Chinese government attaches great importance to safety and lawful rights and interests of overseas Chinesecitizens in accordance with the security condition of the relevant countries," Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told reporters here.

China's state-run media yesterday had quoted Chinese analysts as saying that Beijing would be forced to use a"military way" to end the standoff in the Sikkim sector if India refuses to listen to the "historical lessons" being offered by it.
