Clerk arrested for forging judge's signature, `clearing' files

Mumbai, Feb 16: City police have arrested a court clerk for allegedly forging a judge's signature to `clear' cheque bouncing cases. 

Maruti Salunkhe, the accused, worked at Ballard Pier court in South Mumbai.

He allegedly forged signature of a judge on 105 files of cheque bouncing cases of a company, police said.

Based on a complaint filed by assistant registrar of High Court, MRA Marg police registered cheating and forgery case against Salunkhe and arrested him yesterday.

Salunkhe allegedly told the police that he `charged' Rs 2,500 per file.

A local court sent him in police custody till Monday.
