Uttarakhand: At least 30 people have been reportedly killed and 25 others are still missing as cloudburst hit the Bastadi village located in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand here on Friday morning. The impact of the cloudburst was so intense that it washed away many houses of the village and left the residents trapped in the debris.
The cloudburst also hit the villages of Singhali, Patthakot, Ogla and Thal villages, as per reports. The villages are buried under heavy debris and people are still trapped.
According to ANI, “River Alaknanda rises above the danger level mark after a cloudburst in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand.”
Incessant rains since Thursday night resulted in landslides at various places and a cloud burst in Bastadi village, said officials.
“At least 8 houses in the Bastadi village have been reduced to rubble. The administration has so far recovered 7 dead bodies and 25 people are still missing. The roads have been cut off and phone lines have been snapped which made it difficult to access the village,” according to reports.
Soon after the orders from Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat the state has deployed army in the affected regions. Two teams of NDRF have already been sent to the affected areas.
