New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi will be in Ayodhya today as part of his 30-day Mahayatra. The Congress vice-president will be the first member of the party’s first family to visit Ayodhya after the demolition of the disputed structure in the holy city in 1992.
After reaching Ayodhya, Rahul will offer prayers at the famous Hanuman Garhi temple. This will be both, spiritual and emotional moment for the Congress vice-president. About 26 years ago his father and former PM Rajiv Gandhi had plans to offer prayers at Hanuman Garhi during his Ayodhya visit, but could not do so due to paucity of time. The Hanuman Garhi temple is just a kilometre away from the Ramjanmbhoomi-Babri Masjid site, but it is not known whether Rahul will visit the site or not.
Rahul’s Mahayatra, according to many political analysts, signals Congress’ soft Hindutva strategy for the UP elections. Analysts say that Congress is going all out to woo the Brahmin voters this time around in a bid to make a comeback after 27 years of power drought.
