New Delhi, Feb 27: Counting of votes for Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Election underway. The polls were held on 24th February followed by re-polling in 2 booths yesterday.
Congress leading on 58 wards, BJP on 11 and Shiromani Akali Dal on 10.
The polling for the largest civic body of Punjab took place on February 24. However, it was marred by stray incidences of violence, according to reports. Voting for The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation elections took place in 95 wards. It has been learnt that around 494 candidates were in the fray. According to the election commission, around 60 percent eligible voters cast their votes.
Under the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, there are around 10.50 lakh voters including 5.67 lakh women, 4.28 lakh women and 23 third gender. PTI reported on 24 February that there were clashed between the opposition and ruling party at several places. It said that Akali workers had fired a shot from his revolver in ward number 75 following clashes with supporters of Varsha Rampal, Congress candidate and Sukhvinder Kaur Bhinda of SAD.
