Dalit man, mother beaten with lathis in Gujarat

New Delhi: It was the Una replay once again. One cannot easily forget the Una Dalit flogging incident. In more or less same manner, a man and his mother, who belonged to the same community, were meted out the same treatment.

A group of people from the Kshatriya community at Kasor village in Anand district thrashed Shailesh. 21, and his mother Maniben, 45, for skinning a dead cattle. The torture started with a verbal abuse and then around 20 people thrashed mother-son duo with sticks. A police complain has been filed by Shailesh whee h has name five people.

Divulging details, Shailash said that on Friday, Darbar community members threatened him to stop the skinning work saying it was raising a stink in their locality. To avoid any rouble, Shailesh left for his house. But on Saturday night, they were attacked by the mob at their house in Rohitvaas. Around 25 families living in Rohitvaas earn a living by skinning dead animals.

Police have booked five persons along with a mob of around 20 persons under Sections 323, 506 (2) of the IPC and under the SC/ST Act.
