The Datsun redi-GO is witnessing a surge in demand across the country thanks to its contemporary styling and aggressive pricing. Due to the overwhelming response, the bookings of the car have reportedly crossed the 20,000 mark. The urban crossover, as Datsun calls it, now has a waiting period of one to two months, depending on the variant you choose. Additionally, the company delivered a record 310 units of the small car in a single day to mark the beginning of Chingam festivities in Kerala.
The two base variants – D and A – of the redi-GO call for a waiting period of up to two months, while the top two trims – T and S – can be had in a month’s time, post booking. Starting at a price as low as Rs 2.38 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), around 5,000 units of the car are reported to have been delivered until now.
The entry-level Nissan hatch has been able to make an impact on the Indian auto industry and has simultaneously helped the parent company witness an unprecedented growth of 126 per cent in July. Launched in June, the redi-GO registered sales of 576 (pre-bookings), 2,925 and 3,940 units in May, June and July, respectively.
With the tall-boy design and loads of features, the redi-GO makes up for a good choice for first-time car buyers. Powered by a 799cc, three-cylinder petrol motor, the redi-GO produces 54PS of power and a torque of 72Nm. Mated to a five-speed manual transmission, Datsun claims that the redi-GO returns 25.17kmpl of fuel efficiency.
In a segment in which Maruti dictated terms until now, the emergence of the Renault–Nissan alliance with cars such as the Kwid and the redi-GO is definitely good news, since buyers now have a lot of options to choose from.
