Denied Rajya Sabha ticket, Naresh Agrawal now joins BJP

New Delhi, March 12: Senior politician, who was one of the pillars of Samajwadi Party, Naresh Agrawal today resigned from the party and joined BJP. Sources say that after being denied Rajya Sabha ticket from his party, he took this step.

Naresh Agrawal joined BJP in the presence of Union Minister Piyush Goyal at BJP headquarters in Delhi.

The Samajwadi Party has 47 MLAs in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly and can send just one candidate to the upper house. And the chosen one was veteran actress Jaya Bachchan.

Bollywood actor and Samajwadi Party leader Jaya Bachchan on Friday filed her nomination papers as SP candidate for the Rajya Sabha biennial elections from Uttar Pradesh. On being asked about getting the party ticket instead of seniors like Kironmay Nanda and Naresh Agarwal, the three-time SP MP said, “I am also senior.”

Her this term in the Rajya Sabha expires on April 2. The biennial elections to 10 Rajya Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh will be held on March 23.
