Milind Jhadav,Nashik: Seizures of fake currency should not be considered as stray incidents now. The situation is getting scary with every passing day, as fakes of new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes are flooding the market. The web of fake currency is spread across the nation, as proved by seizure of around Rs 1.40 crore fake currency here.
Of the Rs 1.40 crore seized, Rs 1.35 crore are fakes of new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes. Police said that the fakes look like original and it is difficult to differentiate between the original and fakes.Police have arrested 11 persons in this connection and are interrogating the accused to reach the kingpin.
The fake currency racket is being run by a mafia, and the gang works like a well-oiled machinery. What makes matter worse is the fact that most people are yet to get accustomed to the new notes, which makes it easy for the criminals to slip in fake currency in the market. (News24Bureau)
