New Delhi:The NHRC on Tuesday sought a report from the Delhi Police over allegations that policemen attacked a female student and manhandled journalists during the February 22 clash of students at the Delhi Universitys Ramjas College.
In a notice to Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Kumar Patnaik, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said it has taken cognizance of complaints and media reports against police, and gave him four weeks to submit a detailed report.
"Police personnel attacked a female student and snatched cameras from media persons, who were recording the incident outside Ramjas College in Delhi University Campus on the 22nd February 2017. Allegedly, some journalists, covering clashes, were slapped, punched and kicked by the policemen," reads the NHRC notice.
"The Commission has taken on record complaints as well as media reports making similar allegations, including threats to some students on social media.
The Commission has given him four weeks to submit a detailed report in the matter," it added.
The violent clashes between activists of the right-wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Left-affiliated All India Students Association (AISA) left over a dozen people injured, including teachers and journalists.
