Freida Pinto joins hands with Michelle Obama for upliftment of girls

Popular actress Freida Pinto has joined hands with the first lady Michelle Obama, her mother Marian Robinson and daughters Malia and Sasha to promote quality education for girls. The initiative called “Let Girls Learn” will involve a discussion on the barriers to education that girls face. The ladies will travel across three countries, Liberia, Morocco and Spain from June 27-July 1 to promote this cause. President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf will meet with Pinto and the First Lady.

Following which, in Morocco, Meryl Streep will be joining them along to discuss the challenges women in the African countries deal with on a regular basis. It is a problem for girls in these countries to focus and stay in school for reasons such as poverty, cost of education in terms of books and uniforms, gender bias and early marriage that take precedence over education.

Frieda and the first lady want to stress on the importance of overcoming these obstacles and achieving great heights of success. There needs to be a comprehensive approach towards tackling these barriers which not only focuses on financial empowerment of girls but also with improving their learning abilities.
