Gautam Gambhir helps Asian games gold medallist Dingko Singh

Former Indian boxer and Asian Games gold medallist Dingko Singh is fighting the toughest bout of his life. After a chemotherapy session in Imphal, it was revealed that he had lost 70 per cent of his liver as it had to be removed.

When 2011 Cricket World Cup hero Gautam Gambhir learnt of his plight, he came out in support of him financially. The southpaw said that there were many ways the boxer could be helped by the country.

“It is disturbing to note that Dingko has been left alone to fight for his life,” he told Express.

“It is really tragic the way we treat our sportspersons. I mean here is a guy who has won gold at Asian Games, Arjuna Award and is a Padma Shri. I am sure there are ways to look after him. I have done something which I won't like to publicise here.”

Dingko had to be shifted to Imphal because of the high cost of treatment in Delhi. And this is shocking that our sportspersons have to go through this even after Sports minister Vijay Goel expressed that all his needs will be taken care of in Delhi.

Dingko has also received the Arjuna award along with the Padma Shri.
