Govt clears NEET ordinance; defers common medical entrance exam by a year

The government today cleared an ordinance deferring the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) by a year following large-scale protests from a number of states and medical colleges over a Supreme Court ruling mandating the exam for all medical aspirants.

Once the ordinance is issued, students of state government boards will not have to sit for the NEET on July 24. They, however, will have to become part of the uniform entrance exam from next academic session, clarified government sources.
