New Delhi: Finally there is relief for  kids going to school. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a circular asking all CBSE affiliated schools not to give homework to students of Class I and II.  The CBSE also asked schools to ensure that these children  come to school without school bags. CBSE said that schools should take step to reduce the weight of school bags which are affecting children’s health.
CBSE circular said,”Young children whose spine is at a crucial stage of growth are the most susceptible ones to hazards such as back pain, muscle pain, shoulder pain, fatigue and in extreme cases the distortion of spinal cord or shoulders that may most plausibly be attributed to heavy school bags.”
CBSE has asked school to ensure light weight books for students of Class I to Class VIII, and wants school to avoid prescribing unnecessary  additional textbooks. CBSE wants schools to avoid hardbound books and copies. It has advised  schools to go for random checking of school bag weight. CBSE also said that schools should focus on group activities during school hours instead of giving homework as that adds to weight of school bag.
