Shimla: Rohtang Pass, which connects Kullu with Lahaul and Spiti valleys in Himachal Pradesh, is likely to be opened later this month. According to reports, snow clearing operations have started on the Manali-Leh National Highway from Beas Nallah, which is located 32 km from Manali.
Commander of 38 BRTF, Col KP Rajendra said that due to less snowfall this year, Rohtang Pass, which is situated at 13,050 feet, is expected to be opened later this month.
Rohtang Pass, which generally opens in June, once served as an important trade route and is the source of river Beas. Known as the 'highest jeepable road in the world', the lofty pathyway provides a beautiful picturesque for the travellers and is often termed as the 'Trekker's Paradise'.
