New Delhi: The Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry hiked the fees for the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) from Rs 90,000 to Rs 2 Lakh per annum.
A proposal for such a hike in annual fees of IITs was approved by a panel last month.
The higher fees will be applicable from the next session. However, the new fees structure will not be applicable to SC, ST, disabled students, and BPL students.
Earlier, HRD Minster Smriti Irani had promised a 100% fee waiver for all the SC, ST, Dalit and physically challenged students of the 23 branches of the IIT. Irani said that the move will benefit nearly 50% of the 60, 471 students enrolled in various IITs.
