As North India swelters in a record-breaking heat wave, record rainfall has brought life to a standstill in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Tamil Nadu's capital Chennai is revisiting the horrors of last year's floods, after incessant rains since Monday have left the city crippled.
More than 20 centimetres of rain has been reported in the past 24 hours alone. The rainfall began after a deep depression was formed in the Bay of Bengal. Heavy rain is expected in Chennai as the deep depression moves closer.
