Legendary Indian Classical dancer, choreographer and instructor Mrinalini Sarabhai, 97, passed away in Ahemdabad on Thursday.
The danseuse, fondly known as 'Amma', was ailing for some time due to ill-health and was hospitalized for the past two weeks.
She was the wife of renowned scientist Vikram Sarabhai, and has a son, Kartikeya and a daughter, Mallika Sarabhai, who is a danseuse as well.
The founder director of Darpana Academy of Performing Arts, Sarabhai has also written many poems, novels, plays and stories for children.
Mrinalini received many distinguished awards and laurels in recognitions of her contribution to art. She even was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1992 and the Padma Shri in 1965.
