India’s first nuclear submarine INS Arihant ready for operations

Vishakhapatnam: Having passed several deep sea diving and weapon launch tests, India’s first nuclear-armed submarine INS Arihant is ready for operation.

According to a report in the Economic Times, Arihant has undergone deep-sea dives off the Vishakhapatnam and is fully operational now.

INS Arihant is first of the five in the class of submarines designed and constructed as a part of Indian Navy’s Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV) project.

Launched by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on July 26, 2009, Arihant will be equipped with K15 short-range missile, with a range of 700 Km and K4 ballistic missile system, with a range of 3,500 Km.
