IPL: Bombay HC allows first match at Wankhede stadium

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Thursday allowed BCCI to hold the first cricket match of Indian Premier League (IPL) at Wankhede stadium on April 9.

The decision came a day after the Bombay high Court asked BCCI and other cricket associations in Maharashtra and Mumbai to shift out IPL matches from drought-hit Maharashtra.

The court gave its decision while hearing a PIL filed by an NGO named Loksatta Movement, which has questioned the need for holding IPL matches, as it would lead to a huge wastage of water in drought-hit state.

The next hearing is on April 12.
