Lahore: Pakistan’s Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah on Thursday confirmed that Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Maulana Masood Azhar has been taken into “protective custody”.
“Masood Azhar was taken into protective custody by the counter-terrorism department,” he said in an interview to Dawn News.
However, the Pak minster clarified that JeM chief has not been “arrested” and that Azhar will face arrest and legal action only if his “involvement in Pathankot attack is proved beyond doubt”.
Earlier, some media reports had suggested that the JeM chief, who has been named as the mastermind of Pathankot attack by New Delhi, had been arrested. However, Pak Foreign Office said that it was “not aware” of Azhar’s arrest.
