New Delhi: He is 67-year old from Brasilia, Brazil. He has followers across the world. Most of his disciples are young women. He believes he is the reincarnation of Jesus, so for the last 35 years he is preaching the message of God. He is Inri Cristo.
Many of his followers live in his ‘Church’ compound, just outside Brasilia, among them most are women. Youngest disciple is 24, who had met him when she was 2. The eldest is 86, who has been his follower since the last 32 years.
Cristo claims to have followers in Britain and France also, and has travelled 27 countries. But the problem is that he has been arrested 40 times and was expelled from Britain for his controversial statements. Reasons are simple. His Jesus-like dressing, and unorthodox views on abortion and capitalism.
Claims to be incarnation of Jesus, but does not celebrate Christmas. “It is a day when the little sons of the rich can show the gifts they received while the poor children only get a crumb. So it is a very sad day for anyone who sees things with the eyes that I see,” he says.
He claims that first time he realise that he was Jesus was during a religious fast in Chile in 1979. It was here that a powerful voice told him, “I am your Father. The God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob.”
He and his disciples feed on home-grown fruits like bananas, avocados and mangos. There is a vegetable garden too in his ‘church’.
His response, when critics call him mentally ill’ is “I can be crazy but not dumb. Madness is different from dementia. It is the mother of philosophers, prophets and inventors”.
“My mission is to prepare the elect, the survivors of the inevitable nuclear hecatomb that will culminate in the end of this chaotic world, for the formation of the new earthly society, which will strive to fulfill the Creator's will,” says the man with a quirky lifestyle.
