New Delhi, 30 Oct: After receiving an ‘amazing’ response for JioPhone, which even led to glitches on MyJio app and people were unable to book further JioPhone. The latest report says that the company has stopped further production of JioPhones and reportedly planning to bring out an Android phone.
The report suggests that Jio’s new plan on Android smartphones came after Airtel and Vodafone came in partnership with handset makers to roll out with their own low-cost Android-based smartphones offering better features than Jio’s Rs 1500 phone.
Vodafone and Micromax collaborated to offer 4G smartphones at an effective price of less than Rs 1000. Bharti Airtel also launched a 4G smartphone at price of under Rs 1500 in partnership with handset maker Karbonn.
Since not many apps compatible with KaiOS but people are working on developing special versions for the JioPhone.
JioPhone runs on KaiOS, and the company will manufacture up to 10 million units at least, post that it is unclear whether it would be discontinued as the company plans to roll out the Android-based phone.
Jio is expected to complete 6 million deliveries by October end
