Mumbai: Since Reliance boss Mukesh Ambani launched Jio offer, the competitors have been jittery. The telecom operators are now trying to match Jio with their own freebies, be it Airtel or Vodafone or other players. The intense competition keeps the smile on the face of users. The major gainers have been the young users hooked on data services.
Despite counter offers and complaints, Reliance boss Mukesh Ambani is no mood to relent. The good news is that Jio may continue its free offer beyond March, obviously in a new avatar to circumvent TRAI’s 90-day norm.
Industry observers say that Reliance is in a sound financial position to continue the price war beyond March 2017. The competitors are in no position to match reliance financially. Reliance will use this strength to increase its user base and improve its services before it switches over to paid services.
A lot will depend on how many users decide to stick around with Reliance after March 31, and what is the estimated per user revenue that company manages to garner.
