Mumbai: Get ready for another big big Jio blast. After disrupting the telecom services market, Jio now plans to disrupt the mobile phones market with the cheapest-ever 4G phone in India. You may not believe it, but Jio will give you a 4G phone in just Rs 500. The phone will be loaded with free Jio apps and Jio 4G SIM. The handsets are already in production.
The big announcement about these 4G phones is likely to be made on July 21 at the Relianec annual general meeting. The wants to rev up its customer base with the new phones as its Dhan Dhana Dhan tariff plan about to end soon. With its new phones, Jio wants to lure the 2G customers to upgrade to 4G technology at throwaway price. Sources say that these Jio 4G feature phones will come bundled with agressive tariff plan that will give 4G data at lowest-ever price along with free video and voice calls.
Jio is preparing for the actual launch, expected to be on August 15, in a big way. In a bid to flood the markets with its new handset, Jio has already placed orders for about 2 crore 4G handsets with Chinese manufacturers. The August launch of this low cost 4G mobile has been timed with an eye on rural market. The farmers usually are cash rich in October, the month by which the Jio handsets would become popular after the August launch
According to the report, Reliance Jio 4G VoLTE-enabled feature phone will feature 2.4 inch screen, powered by Qualcomm and Spreadtrum chipsets and 512MB RAM. The phone will have 4GB of internal storage which will be expandable via microSD cards, For photography purposes, it will have 2-megapixel rear camera, and VGA front camera. Apart from 4G connectivity, the feature phone is also said to have Wi-Fi, NFC and GPS.
At present, only Jio runs a 4G VoLTE network. Airtel, Vodafone and Idea are still conducting trials with VoLTE technology.
