Pancham Saude, New Delhi: JioPhone which is making news from the day of its announcement can be booked from Aug24 onwards but in Delhi/NCR booking of this device is open on select authorised dealers. While this device is being hailed as a game-changer in the mobile sector, but the major issue that was raised about the JioPhone was the lack of support for WhatsApp and other popular apps.
JioPhone will run on KaiOS and will come loaded with Jio apps, including Jio TV, while WhatsApp not yet in the list. But if media reports to be believed, WhatsApp will be added soon in the JioPhone apps and the two companies were in preliminary talks. The report further suggests that WhatsApp could launch a special version of the app specially for the JioPhone.
When WhatsApp software engineer Alan Kao was asked about this he said, we were not aware of any plans to expand to other platforms. WhatsApp is yet to make an official comment whether JioPhone will feature a special version of the WhatsApp, but the latest response from the WhatsApp engineer confirms that now there’s no plan as such.
On the other hand, JioPhone will have its own JioChat app, but a feature phone version of WhatsApp could prove a game changer in a market like India.
JioPhones can be booked from Aug 24 onwards, through both online and offline modes but the company will deliver the phone from 1st September onwards, the buyer needs to pay Rs 1500 at the time of picking the device, and this amount will be refunded by the company after 3 years.
