JNU row: Students decide not to accept varsity's probe panel report

New Delhi: JNU students, at a decision taken at JNU Students' Council meeting, decided to "not accept" the report by the university's probe panel.

The council members said that the report was based on "unfair probe" and their replies to the show-cause notices issued by the varsity will be sent accordingly.

Earlier, the varsity had issued show-cause notices to 21 students for 'violating norms and discipline rules' in connection with the contentious Afzal Guru event.

According to reports, the high-level inquiry committee had also recommended rustication of five students including JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar, Ariban Bhattacharya and Umar Khalid in connection with the controversial case.

Meanwhile, JNU authorities have extended the deadline for replying to the show-cause notice served to March 18, after the students had sought more time to seek legal opinion on the matter.

Reports suggest that the final punishment for the students will be decided on the basis of response to the notices.
