Judges appointment: CJI says differences with Govt sorted

New Delhi: Chief Justice of India Justice TS Thakur on Wednesday said that the differences on Memorandum of Procedure (MoP) with the Centre on judges appointment have been  sorted out. He added that the mechanism will be in place within 2 weeks. Justice Thakur was speaking at an event here.

The Centre and the SC Collegium were involved in an unprecedented exchange of notes and arguments on the issue. Both sides were adamant on some provisions of MoP.

Highlighting the trust deficit between the Centre and the Judiciary,  the Supreme Court, in October 2015, struck down the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) Act and the 99th Constitutional Amendment, which gave politicians and civil society a say in the appointment of judges in the High Courts and the Supreme Court.
