Karisma Kapoor files dowry harassment case against husband

New Delhi: Following innumerable twists and turns, the divorce case of Karisma Kapoor and Sanjay Kapur has witnessed yet another grim episode, as the actress filed a dowry harassment case against her estranged husband and mother-in-law Rani Surinder Kapur.

Since last five years, both Karisma and Sanjay are on the opposite sides of the barricade and hence, live separately. A report in Mid-Day stated that Karisma approached the Khar police earlier this week with a complaint of mental harassment by her husband and mother-in-law.

Based on her allegations of being mentally harassed by the Kapurs over a period of time, the police called Karisma couple of days ago, recorded her statement, and finally registered an FIR under the Dowry section 498 (A) — husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty — and section 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

Currently, the estranged couple's divorce case is pending before the Bandra family court. Earlier, the divorce was filed by the duo by mutual consent, however, Karisma withdrew her consent stating Sanjay had failed to meet certain financial commitments established in the consent terms.
