Srinagar: Security forces on Wednesday gunned down two militants in an encounter in Kashmir's Phulwama district.
The security forces identified one of the militants as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Abu Okasha, wanted for the Udhampur attack on a BSF convoy in August last year. However, identity of the second militant is yet to be ascertained.
The development came after the security forces recieved intelligence inputs regarding the presence of more than a dozen Hizbul Mujahideen and LeT militants in an agricultural farm in a village near Awantipore, Rising Kashmir reported.
Following the information, a joint team of army, police's SOG and CRPF cordoned off the area in Wadhakpora village and launched a search operation.
Meanwhile, the residents came out in large numbers and pelted stones on the military personnel in a bid to help the militants to escape.
