Key points of Zakir Naik's press conference

Controversial Mumbai-based preacher Zakir Naik held a press conference on July 15 over Skype and sought to defend himself against allegations that he promotes terrorism. He also denied having any links with terrorists and claimed he was being targeted for running an Islamic channel, Peace TV, which has been banned by the Indian government. Here are the crucial points that he said during the press conference:

1) I am a messenger of peace. I do not criticise any section of Islam, I may disagree on interpretations;

2) During introductory speech he condemned France attack, that killed 80 and injured over 100;

3) Zakir Naik also alleged media trials in India post reports in Dhaka;

4) Knowingly I have never met any terrorist, but if some people stand next to me take photographs, I smile. I don't know who they are;

5) Zakir claimed suicide bombing where innocents are killed is haraam. But as tactic of war it is permitted say many scholars;

6) Media should be held responsible for altering my answers and misguiding people;

7) I challenge you to show me any unedited answer of mine where I have not condemned suicide bombing of the kind that is happening;

8) Chapter 5, verse 32 Quran says killing innocents is crime. No scripture other than Quran says 1 innocent killed is killing humanity;

9) No official government authority has approached us with any question. I have no problem with Indian government, police;

10) All allegations against me are baseless and comes with no official confirmation.
