New Delhi, Sep 16: Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated with fervor and gaiety mostly in the eastern zone of the country. Since the presence of the people of this region is substantial in the Northern part of the country it is also celebrated in north India now with equal enthusiasm.
Artisans, craftsmen, mechanics, welders, masons, industrial and factory workers worship Lord Vishwakarma -- the divine architect -- to ensure smooth functioning of machine parts and their tools.
Pujas were organised in almost every nook and corner of the states including the bus termini, cycle-rickshaw and auto-rickshaw stands.
Vehicles are decorated with garlands and streamers while engineers refrain from using gadgets and other devices as a mark of obeisance to the god.
Factories and warehouses remain shut and labourers enjoy devotional songs and special feasts.
Idols and photographs of the deity are installed at workplaces including factories, automobile shops and miniature replicas adorn the interiors of cabs and buses.
The day is celebrated by youth and teenagers by flying colourful kites. Kite flying competitions are also held among various localities.
