New Delhi, Jan 13: Makar Sankranti is a very auspicious festival in th Hinu Calende and is celebrated all across the country. It has different names in various states and since India basically has an agrarian economy the importance of the festival can well be understood. This is a festival of harvest and farmers offer the harvest to the fire and the celebrations begin.
Sun,which has a special and auspicious role in agriculture is also worshipped on this day. Makar Sankranti also heralds the end of the month with the winter solstice and beginning of longer days. Farmers welcome the sunny and longer days which are so essential for the crops. Here is the shubh muhurat puja vidhi and date of Makar Sankranti:
Makar Sankranti will be celebrated on 14th January this year though som parts of the country are celebrating it on 15th January also. See the main points :
-On this day it is considered auspicious to distribute 'til and gur' (sesame seed and jaggery)
-Take a bath early in the morning and worship the Sun God. This is very important
- The first thing that you should put in your mouth is til and gur. Take til along with raddish. Ths is considered very auspicious.

-Shubh Muhurat: From 2:00 AM to 05:41 AM
-Muhurat lasts for- 3 hours 41 minutes
-Puja Vidhi- Have a bath early in the morning and pay your obeisance to Sun God. Distribute Khicdi and til-gur (sesame seed and jaggery). A dip in the Ganges is considered very auspicious. You should alo do 'Tarpan' and remember the deceased members of the family. Chant these two mantras:
